Il futuro
Chile
Alicia Scherson
A highway accident. Bianca’s and Tomás’ parents have died. They are orphans now. They are still in school, they are still virgins and they are all alone in the world.
They stay at the same apartment and try to keep their old routine, going to school and out with friends, pretending nothing has changed. But accidents deform everything and, just like their parents’ car, their lives begin to change in an unexpected and inevitable way.
From the day of the accident the night is never dark again. Everything is flooded with a disturbing greenish light. The brothers do not know whether it is a psychological or a supernatural phenomenon and do not care to find out, but they cannot sleep at night. Every morning they are more tired to go to school until they finally quit.
They have to get jobs. She washes hair at a beauty salon, he cleans the floor of a gym. They walk around the city and rent videos: her, romantic dramas, him, porn. They also watch TV and talk about the future. One day, Tomás brings two friends from the gym home, Libio and Boloñés and they move into the parents’ bedroom.
Bianca starts having sex with both of them, but falls in love with none. They watch TV together and talk about body building and about the future.
Apart from that, things remain the same. Tomás makes useless efforts to grow muscles and lose his virginity. Bianca applies shampoo and conditioner in several heads, but she is not allowed to touch the scissors. Libio and Boloñés cook and wash dishes, keeping the apartment perfectly clean, and at night they take turns to visit
Bianca’s room.
One day, Tomás is fired from the gym. Bianca’s salary is not enough for all of them and the money starts running low so the guys come up with a plan to change their luck: to steal money from an old and blind body builder they call Maciste because he used to play him (and Hercules and Samson) in the sixties’ movies. Maciste keeps all his fortune in a safe box because he doesn’t trust banks. It is a simple plan that will allow them to open their own gym or beauty salon and have an easy and brilliant future. But, in order to fulfill the plan, Bianca must visit Maciste and sleep with him until she wins his trust. That makes her into a criminal, she thinks, but not a prostitute. So she accepts.
Maciste is a white and big man who lives in a huge, dark and labyrinthic house. Bianca spends hours with him having sex and talking about everything. They talk about movies, about his time in the United States, about the time when body building was considered an art. Whenever she can, Bianca walks around the house looking for the safe. But weeks pass and the safe doesn’t appear. Tomás and the guys are impatient. They press Bianca and threaten to try a more violent way. Bianca keeps looking for the safe without success and at the same time, she begins to fall in love
with Maciste.
