Deep in the Amazon lowlands, a Matsigenka teenager named Meshia discovers Ivan, a young boy who vanished two years ago and was presumed dead. Determined to rescue him, she leads him on a journey upriver into the mountains towards the city of Quillabamba. Ivan urgently needs eye surgery to stop the infection that is progressively consuming his sight.
While a withdrawn Ivan grapples with the trauma of his enigmatic past and eerie dreams, Meshia finds herself captivated by the city's allure. Driven by her strong ambition and fragile illusions, she enters a local beauty pageant. Despite Ivan's silence, their uncanny bond deepens. However, a mysterious stranger emerges from the shadows, harboring ominous intentions that threaten to unravel their inner worlds.
Shot in a mix of 16mm, Super 8, and digital formats, "Punku" — which means "gateway" in Quechua — is a unique hybrid fiction film that explores the unspoken and the unseen, acting as a portal between different forms of existence, spaces, and realities.
