A young Quechua midwife sings to pregnant women, calming their pain through her song. Her mother, a veteran midwife, understands this gift as a miracle granted by the Gods. Influenced by her best friend and after getting to know a group of city singers, the young woman decides to leave and pursue a career as a singer. The community begins to suffer the mysterious death of animals and crops, and the villagers attribute this bad omen to the young woman's departure. Her mother must endure the community's disapproval and decides to travel to the city to embark on a quest to bring her back.
